Panna XII

Peaceful village, mirthful village
What song can express thy praise?
What toy Who can as one enumerate
Thy comforts and thy pleasures.

Man in thy calm retreats spends a life
Honest and are stained by usuryx x The ancient Poles regarded the usury as something very degrading. You must keep in mind that this poem is from the 16th century. I think the mannerism is worthwhile preserving.
His cares are pious
His savings scarce.

Some spend their life a at courts
Or cross the seas
Where tempests toss him
And death within an inst

Some bring thy tonguexx xx Tongue is meant the speak of the Lawyers. to market
And sell their counsel for pounds
Or stain their acquisitions in blood
Endangering their lif own throats for thou.

The ploughman furrows the earth
And with the produce suffices for nourishes himself his children
Nourishes his hired servants
And maintains his Household

For him the orchards bring bear fruit
For him the bees make honey
For his benefit the sheep are covered with wool
And the folds are stacked with lambs.

He mows the meadows and his fields
And gi stores it in the barns
And when the seed time is at an end
He forms a circle at the fireside
