Kochanowski

Kochanowski was born & (See next page, what must come in here

2 (I have given it among the specimens of his poetry some of the Threns
in which he laments the loss of his child where he represents as the model of every thing graceful promising & lovely and continuing promising They overflow with
the expressions of passionate & mournful grief. But the
want of diminutives in our language makes it impossible
to convey their tenderness into English. My valued friend Lach Szyrna
has recalled to my mind the beautiful latin verses, beginning
"Animula blandula vagula"
as written in the spirit of his favorite
The child was 32 months old.
