One Mr Stanbury came from town
To visit the Exeter men
Had they known the business that brought him down
They'd have sent him back again
Id est That is – but it is not – if shame ever
Have check'd corruption's sway
But they press'd to their bosoms the gay deceiver
And thus cross-parleyed they:

Pray Mr Stanbury! who are you
And tell us what is your
And prithee what d' ye mean to do
By poking in your head?
I deal in Elector's carcesses
And seats I buy & sell;
And I'll do for Exeter if you please
What I did for Barnstable.
