See the bright stars – how bright and fair like lamps of gold they are.
And we can see them though they are so yet their light can reach us tho' so far!
What were they made for – were they made to light
And make the earth look gay and glad at night?
But wise men say each star is like a sun Each star is like the sun, the wise men say
Large as our world A sun like ours that gives both light and day
To worlds like this. They are hung up in air
How great must be that God who hung them there!
The God who made these worlds, – and ours – and all –
He holds them in the skies – they can not fall –
The god who made the hills the plain – the seas –
