The storm is gathering roused;- Earth is bursting as the wretched world filled
With hired assassins spreading like a flood sea
Armed for destruction, – exercised in blood trained to cruelty
They will'd the accursed thunderbolts of war
he sword pursues, – the flamer devours – & far
And made near destruction, around it pestilence famine & despair
Ravage the fields & taint the innocent air
More dreadful for terrible than even sword & flame!
And these are warriors – honored with the name
Of glory heroism & glory – There must wear
Undying Laurels on their sanguine brows!!
Come forth ye murdering conquerors – answer now
How are ye better than that tyrant old
Who joy'd while black & burning ruins roll'd
O'er his death – & freedom & slaves? And ye Ye raptured too can see
This excellent world in flames – if mid the cries
Of widows & of orphans agonies
Ye hear the hellish shouts of "victory"!
