Monday Morning

He may bear afflictions shock
He is founded on a rock
Who upon her God relies,
He shall conquer be at length
Strengthened by almighty strength
And with heavenly wisdom were.

What can sighs or tears avail
Misery's plaints or sufferings wail
Nightly horror – daily fear?
Grief becomes of deeper die;
Agony makes agony
Bitterer,- steep'd in sighs & tears.

'Tis alone religion's calm
That can breath a soothing balm -
Confidence that all is best
That the pangs we suffer here
Salutary - tho' severe -
Fit us for our bed place of rest
