O! thou art outraged, Liberty! Mankind
have ceased to love thee – Earth is but a grave
Occupied by the tyrant & the slave;-
We the fathers close our eyes on truth & freedom – bind
Around our necks the accursed yoke – the brave
The brave are dead – & none are left behind
But Save the vile weeds, as which despotism's wave
Rolls o'er insultingly:- the withering rod
Of tyranny we Kiss – we bow our heads,
In worse than Egypts dust – The brave are dead –
We are idolators – We make a god
Of creatures worse than fiends – & – & Of fiendlike creatures – &for tribute crouch fling
Our vey spirit at its vile feet Beneath Every souls away. – & call the monster King.
