I wake to existence – to motion – feeling
And know that my portion is sprinkled well pleasure & peace
I join the sweet tongues of the universe stealing
To the portals wide gates of heaven in a chorus of bliss.
Then gratitude tunes all my day, – & I own
That life is Thy greatest & hast of holiest blessings
Thee O my God! I devote it alone
O be it Tho' an offering reach unworthy Thy righteous possessing –
O God! let Thy mercy beam smilingly o'er me
Give strength light to my hand & spirit – & strength to my hand
Let the bright hopes of paradise hovering before me
Conduct to the verge of that fair promised joy-brightened land;
And thus with new courage my journey pursuing
To Thee I commend me, my father & friend –
Again the bright pure vows of obedience renewing
I pray Thee to guide me – to guide to the end
