Even as thy still & solemn
the list of human woes;
So shall the dark grave's silence deep
Lull the tired soul to peaceful sleep.
What can we ask for here – Thy Heaven's light
To guide us thro' death's dreary night
Thy Its sun, around our hopes to roll
When the tomb post shall chill the soul.
O purify our spirits Lord!
Guide us by Thy directing word –
We sleep – & in that sleep is stilled
The pang of pain – Our Soul is filled
With hope sweet shining from above –
Thy Sun awakes in light & love;
Thy angels hover o'er our head
Thy light is all around us spread.
The immortal day is dawning o'er us
Faith opens her brilliant pass before us
