Jeremy Bentham Esqr

---page break---

Dr Sir
I went to dine with my brother yesterday
& did not return till the evening, or would have returned
an earlier answer to your kind note.

An inquiry after the longitude or even
perpetual motion, would not have puzzled me more
than your Question: which I cannot possibly resolve
from my own recollection, nor do I in the least Know
where to procure you the desired information: however,
I will attack my banker tomorrow in hopes of there
being some professional list sent round annually to
the Trade. So vale for tonight, & understand that
Mum is the order of the day with
yrs Sincerely Rd Till

Monday morng. My bankers have marked those houses who they think
existed previous to 1759. but as to the precise years when the others began
Trade, they know of no other method of information but by enquiry
at their respective houses
