to settle what deduction ought to be made on
behalf of Government out of the value of
the Premises &c in consideration of the said
sum of £15,000 , and the amount of the
agregate sum the said payments of £18 may
be estimated at.

Mr Bentham's Answer. Article 22. Had Mr Ford had any sufficient
opportunity of being acquainted with the history of
the treaty, Mr Bentham cannot but flatter himself
that what appears now to him as a hardship
upon Government would have appeared to him in a
different light. A proposition that seems to be
tacitly assumed is, that the money in question
is so much clear money out of the pocket of
Government on account of Mr Bentham's plan,
over and above what it would have paid otherwise:

presently) Government is at no expence at all upon
