Contract - White - Journal
Mr White B. — Whatever time you please.
Mr White - Two o'clock then.
Mr Be. I will wait be sure to wait upon you at that
time; and in the mean time you may perhaps some words
may occur to you as calculated to capable of answering the purpose.
Wednesday 17 Aug. 1796. Was at Mr Whites Chambers
some minutes before the time by the Lincolns Inn Clock — was informed by a Clerk that Mr
White had been gone out(gone into the City) for
some time, but had left out the Draught for me
The Draught was accordingly laid before me on the
desk together with an open note in Mr Long's name
from the Treasury, desiring Mr White to get the
Draught engrossed afar giving the explanation respecting
the persons to whom the superannuation
Annuities to be granted to the Convicts should be
made payable. The date of the note was 28
July 1796 - which happened on a Thursday - Three
weeks before, wanting a day -
Looking over the Draught, at in the margin of the
Article in question Art. 15 I found a note quire in
the Atty Gen:l's hand. "G<hi rend='superscript'>v to whom payable?" —
as if an annuity to be granted to a man for
his maintenance when superannuated could have
been understood to be payable to any body else: "
which quire on reading the opinion of
the Atty Gen:l at the end of the Draught I found
enforced by the concluding passage which in these words
