words "I think the 15 article does not clearly express
"to whom the Annuity therein mentioned is to be paid
"which should be clearly expressed." — I wrote
down on a separate piece of paper a clause designed
to remedy the supposed want of clearness, and
pinned the paper to the Draught.
At above a 1/4 after 4 Mr White returned.
Having been waiting for him on the pavement, I
joined him near the foot of his Staircase — not
a syllable his depos countenance and deportment
haughty, sullen and silent — Not a syllable nor
a gesture in the way of apology or regret for the
breach of appointment — On our entrance into
his chambers, he threw himself covered into his

Taking up my draught of the

sudden stop, on observing him go on with the insertion of
