Panopticon versus N.S. Wales

(a) Since the above paragraph was written, the promised continuation public has been

of reason receive a more ample confirmation from experience,
than the above theoretical remarks have received from has been afforded in the present instance by
the actual condition of the "improved" Colony, as exhibited in
this second volume, addressed dedicated by permission, to Lord Hobart —
the Noble Lord in whose hands the management of it was had by that time been
reposed. Extracts from this second Volume no of this to that effect are intended to
accompany this address.
In the error if it be one, which, among those sources
of real dead expense and less called Colonies, prefers those which
are furthest off and produce least — which produce neither
contributions towards the exigence in relief of the inhabitants of the principal of the Mother Country, nor
so much as full subsistence for the inhabitants — the
worthy Magistrate learned Advocate has for his guides and fellow- supporters
the Roses, the Pitts, the Kings, the Portlands, xxs, the xxxs the Kings xxxxs, the xxxxxs of the age.
But in the scale of candour, his station would be at the
top, while theirs would be — where? — in the place indicated by
that matchless mass of correspondence with which Your
Lordship has been or will be entertained, may one day be entertained.
To avoid every the least suspicion of intrigue,
I abstained purposely from every endeavour, to open
a any sort of communication, direct or indirect, with the respectable
historian, to whose ulterior testimony I looked was looking forward
with such firm reliance well-grounded confidence.
