Superior cheapn From Peculiarity of soil, climate, and or exposure
if these any existed mig something might be expected
to answer that should contribute to the same purpose. + + I mean in respect of some correspondent peculiarities that might be expected in the quantity or quality of one in the certain this or that article of the animal or vegetable kingdom. produce. But in no one of
all those shapes can any thing advantage be reasonably looked for
in New South Wales that is not already to be found
in some part or other of the vast peninsula of
Hindostan: a region governed by the British nation, and
acceptable to all others.

Cheapness of labor, if it existed, might be
another source of compensation for the disadvantage of distance.
It is so, in a most remarkable and happy degree, in the East Indies — in its comparison
with the West. T But superior dearness of labour instead
of cheapness is of the essence of the case in all unappropriated countries, in comparison with those unappropriated ones in which
land is not obtainable but by capitalists who can pay
rent for it. As between two 2 appropriated territories countries, both in one
a state of equal security and prosperity, it will depend
in no inconsiderable degree upon habits and opinions.
At no time is it possible that in New South Wales
habits and opinions should be more favourable to cheapness
of labour than they are already for thousands of years they have been in the East Indies.
At present they are as adverse to it as possible: and j
whether of any change in this respect the nation of the Colore
establishments admitts of so much as a chance, Your Lordship
has already seen under the head of reformation and the text
to it.
