N. S. Wales 5
In itself Not that of itself the accusation I have thus come forward
with requires no any apology: in the common with the
rest of his Majesty's subjects, I have an interest
a valuable a constitutional a legal interest in the probity of the (all) his public
servants. The apology I make is for introducing
such matter into this place, and it is because it
is essential to this my case, and for that reason only, that
in this place I have taken upon me to introduce
it..
On this same account it is a matter point | not less
material to state the misconduct mismanagement in all its forms almost every imaginable form
that from the very outset has attended characterized the whole conduct
of the late Demonstration in relation to this mongrel
and eccentric Colony establishment & because the more indefensible that
conduct In its outlook, it had no had been in itself, from the first the
more culpable it was on their part on such pretenses
and for such purposes to persevere in it. + + The best establishment imaginable in that place spot would not have afforded any just thing like a just cause for the relinquishment of the home establishment, ordained by a subsequent exercise of the will of Parliament. But the establishment instead of so far from being the best being the worst imaginable and known to be so by those who ha in the character of a partisan for such relinquishment have made this use of it, the more radically worse it has been, even from the first, the more flagrant, and the more dishonourable the imposture.
In its origin if it had indefensible reas how
indefensible soever the views were by which it was suggested,
they were not indeed of that sort by which on the
present occasion and for the present incidental purpose
it has been perceived in and magnified: made much of: but whether
they were not indefensible — and whether being thus indefensible
and known to be so they were it was not kept up
and for these other indefensible scandalous and nefarious the purpose, Your Lordship
will I flatter myself be ere long prepared to judge.
