v. N.S. Wales Preface

It was Particularly belonging to the Colony of New South
Wales to have a double destination at least if not a double value.
In the character of a great House of Correction it was an .

In estimating the value of the Colony of New South+
Wales
In estimating the value of it in the latter characteristic
my task was comparatively an easy one. I no
more was wanting
had no more to do than to apply to this colony in particular those principles
which I had seen reason to adapt in relation to all
Colonies in general.

In the character
of a source fountain of expected
wealth, it was a jewel

Economy.

These principles had undergone could not have received any sort of
bias from that situation which rendered produced a sort of contrariety between the support of this that particularly
circumstanced Colony and my own particular interests
and wishes views. They were form expressed and in print
before any such contrariety was foreseen apprehended: as manifested
many years before: in idea I can trace the birth of
them to the publication of a pamphlet by Dr Anderson
of 1777 or thereabouts intituled The Interests of Great Britain with regard to
her Colonies Considered.

It has never yet been the character a property of any principles
of mine to be made for any private purpose: but having
been made for a public purpose there can be no good
reason why they should not be applied to any purpose
public or private, to which they may be found applicable
with truth and justice.

With reference to right and wrong in point of convenience
The question is not in itself of any the smallest value
but since such is the of human nature men to
save themselves the trouble of measures examining measures measures and opinions concerning
by their their consequences by the consequences that have flowed or may be expected
to flow from them will in judging of them by the motives
supposed to have given them birth at a long time before
the philosopher will stand exempted from the drudgery of sacrificing
this cock such cocks as these to Asclepius such cocks as these.
