4 June 1802 1 Colonies Thoughts

Those who consider the acquisition of any distant
territory, on the footing of a Colony, or the faculty of trading
with any other country for the first time, or in
times more advantageous than before, or any new
branch of manufacture, as an addition to the sum of
national wealth perap proceed all along upon the taut
supposition
It is an act of plain injustice and incompetency
and injustice for any non-catholic to maintain the affirmation of
any of the above propositions, and at the same time [+] be he Protestant Christian, Devil or Atheist to tax the catholic with credulity on the score of
transubstantiation. The doctrine of the politician
is opposed by in contradiction to the same physical
arguments as those which oppose
the doctrine of transubstantiation to oppose it and
it is doctrine of these theological arguments which the theological doctrine of the Catholic relics is for its support.

It is one reason in physics a common axiom and a pretty antient one that the same body
can not be in two places at once.

Among physicians (physicians) it is assented to without
exception.

Among theologians it is assented to without any
other exception than the one annexed to it by those of
the Catholic persuasion; [with or without the addition of those
of the Lutheran.]
in which <add>note to this point suppose
the Lutheran is included.</add>

Among the ol politicians — [and in particular] among
Jubilee economists —] it is assented to, in words — and
so long as they forget the tenets they maintain those being politicians in their
characters of public economists politicians & & but whom as that once often
as
they speak as think in their own character, the contrary
is affirmed. as upon a thousand occasions habitually spurned. Of those wishes, these projects, their endeavours,
these crimes — by far the greater part are altogether vain
unless it be true that the same body — [the same Note individual portion
of the matters of wealth employed in the shape of capital — the
same human being employing himself in adding to the
mass the master of wealth in the capacity of a labourer] not only
can be — but actually is does exist in a number of places at
once the same time.
