I call it Yes a crying grievance: for granting that the cases
of the thousands of degraded beings thus circumstanced waitswants not
be heard — granting that they ought not to be heard — granting
that the stigma impressed on the character of the husband
pierces through till it imprints itself upon the character of
the unoffending wife and children — granting that the cases of
these miserable thousands do not make a concert loud enough
to reach the ears of justice, at any rate their
subjects of his Majesty British subjects there by dozens, scores and even hundreds
whose character is as much may be as much free from blemish as any that
are to be found in the seat of and source of harmonious government, and whose claim
at any rate in case of need to the benefit of this remedy, in case of need, waits in front
of natural justice at least, be hardly regarded as inferior
to that of the <add>purest and most sealud meritorious</add> any of their fellow subjects.
