But why says somebody start put such extreme
cases? why what informer can be drawn from start such improbably suppositions thus
improbable. Under a government constitution such as ours,
can a t man pretend to entertain any serious apprehension
of a Bastile Bastile? I answer true: hitherto,
not: scan the Habeas Corpus Act no such apprehensions
have in general been entertained. But why? because
there stands — there has stood all along has been the Habeas Corpus
Act: and, no such construction as that contended against having ever been put upon it, it has been regarded
and has regarded by every body — as commensurate
to the mischief — as sufficient for the prevention
of it. But, upon the construction contended against
it is would no longer be commensurate to the mischief. On that construction At this
moment these crests, for these fourteen years there has
been existing existed a Bastile; and New South Wales is that
