MAMMOTH

The curiosity of all Europe has for many Years been much
excited by the Fossil Remains of an extraordinary Animal,
whose CARNIVOROUS GRINDERS proved that it was of a Species
no where in Existence.

In 1740, several Bones of this Kind were found as they were
washed from the Banks of the Ohio, in America, and transmitted
to various Parts of Europe; and several of which were received in
London, and examined by all the Curious, particularly the late
celebrated Dr. HUNTER, in whose MUSEUM, as well as the
BRITISH MUSEUM, these interesting Fragments were deposited.

In the Autumn of 1801, an Opportunity occurring in the State
of NEW-YORK, by the accidental Discovery of some of these
Bones by Persons digging up Marle from a MORASS, Mr. Charles
W. Peale, and his Son Rembrandt Peale, after being engaged in
the Enterprise for several Months, so far succeeded, under the
Auspices of the AMERICAN PHILOSOPHICAL SOCIETY, as to
obtain nearly a complete Skeleton of this extraordinary Monument
of the Ante-Diluvian World; which may be truly called the

Giant Among Quadrupeds.

Even more remarkable for its peculiar Character than pre-eminent
Size, but particularly interesting from the Time, Place, and Manner
of Discovery, and no Record of its Existence to be found in
any Author.

The Reputation of this Exhibition is now fully established,
from the complete Satisfaction it has given to all those who have
visited it; among whom Sir JOSEPH BANKS, and other Characters
of the highest Authority, have declared it to be the greatest
and most interesting Curiosity ever exhibited in Europe.

ADMITTANCE ONE SHILLING, AT THE Old Academy Room, No. 118, Pall-Mall,

From Ten in the Morning till Five in the Afternoon.

Height of the Skeleton 11 Feet — Length 17 Feet 4 Inches — Width 5 Feet
8 Inches.
