10th June 1799. Mr Smith Agent to Henry Wise of
the Priory and Warwick Esqr to Mr Long: offering
2 parcels of 11 acres and 16 Acres near the
of Ld Salisbury's to be added to said Estates the offer
made at the application of Mr Bentham, over and over
approved of by Mr Long. After a duty of
the offer referred by order of the Head of the Treasury
to the Surveyor General, whose deputy Mr Harrison
upon Mr Smith and Mr Bentham's applying to him
them he should do nothing in the business for that
the Lords care not in earnest about it. 15 Mar. 1800; Letter Mr Bentham
of this from Mr from Mr Bentham to Mr Long, who
has never taken the smallest notice, nor has any thing and to this day the
(15 July 1800) the order unconferred unexecuted.
25 Mar. Mar 1800 Mr Long (Official) to Mr Bentham.
No of Prisoners to be provided for in the constitution of the
Penitentiary House, 2000. Thus after about 7 months
consideration, and intermediate reference (26 Septr 1799) to the Duke of
Portland: Mr August 1799 being the date of Mr Benthams letter
praying explicating a decision on this point. No answer would ever
have been given but for Mr Nepeans interference to whom
the rest of the expence nor to the so many accounts by
which it has been proved to be compleatly incompetent to its intended power.
