Mr Long persevering as he is in misconduct is at the same time so conscious of it (ask
Mr Nepean else) that if from so respectable a quarter as that proposed the Notice were
but given, there need not be the smallest apprehension that the occasion for following it
up will be left to take place: -an enquiry - he well knows would cover him with
shame.

Speaking to him in private (as Mr Wilberforce had the goodness to do tother day
would be very inadequate to the purpose - he stands much more in awe of an official
man such as Mr Nepean with whom he cannot avoid mixing now and then than of
any body not in Office.
