XVII. Hulks
a last function of great delicacy and responsibility –what
he had never been used to – what he had never entertained
a thought of – he troubled for the consequences – he had
rather be excused. He was not excused. What was
necessary was in to inspire him with the requisite
degree of confidence was said to him: and while I am
writing he is occupied in the search with the load of groaning/now and then in murmurs at
burthen of responsibility which he feels pressing upon his shoulders.
No pocket did I say? O yes my Lord
there is one but neither exactly of the usual customary form, nor
exactly in the usual place. His pockets free of this –
form he has several are in the Letter boxes of the Chronicle
the Herald and the Times. In their office is the Antechamber
through which he receives the visits of those
unknown yet invited friends candidates while in his office – stand occupy in the
place occupied in Your Lordships by pocket friends.
