bounty — Campbell before he recommends a man for
pardon sees his friends & satisfies himself that some
feasible plan is fixed on for the man's subsistence — only
one of the 50 (a Scotchman) has since been taken up for a new offence.

Some are now going into the 60th Regt. but Ld Sandwich
wont receive them into the navy: as supposed in
account of the attacks that have been made upon him in
this scene in the two Houses.

<p<Campbell says he is very popular among them.</p>

Inconveniences to
be remedied

Improper objects sent by Quarter sessions — One
old man sent from Cornwall at an expence of £20 for
stealing a game cock — died soon after his arrival —
Another who had but one arm, and several who from
other causes are unable to work —

The expence of conveying them from distant parts of the
kingdom much greater than it need be

No means by the present act for of removing those who are
originally unfit for labour, or who become so, to a house of
correction.

a man servt is now there who was sentenced
by some Quarter sessions for no longer than a
year. Such a Judgment must be void, the Statute
allowing of no less than 3 years.

Mr Campbell declined going down with us
into the Hospital: and before we had been there
long he called us out.
