in the said place of confinement, or be removed to and
confined in any other such place or places as aforesaid
as his Majesty ..... from time to time shall appoint,
untill such Offender shall be transported according to
Law, or ... be intitled to his liberty, or untill his
Majesty ..... shall direct the return of such
Offender to the Gaol .... from which he shall have been
so removed. —— there come. Powers as of a Gaoler
(§ 8) Powers of Correction (§ 10), and penalties in case of escape (§ 10).
For my own part, my own choice would be decided
in favour of which ever of the above plans if
any, you should fix upon, Sir, as capable of being
carried into execution, like other Treasury business,
without being sent to travel through the Law
Offices: a course which however to my humble conception
not one of them need take. Taught by the experience
of so many years, whatever has that
route to take I look upon as so compleatly out
of my reach, and so perfectly incapable of being
in point of time, that the least eligible
plan in other respects would be embraced by me in
preference to what would otherwise be the most eligible,
were it not subjected to take that route. The
Permanent Establishment must unavoidably have to
pass through one of those Offices at least—for
sanctioning the instrument that must be drawn for the appointing
me Feoffee of the land now to be purchased
in the room of that which was drawn and approved
of for Battersea Rise for sanctioning the few short and inconsiderable
alterations that
