P.S. My application for the Hulks was made about near
six months ago: my proposition respecting the Temporary
Penitentiary House, four months ago. At present
therefore, I hope I am not unreasonably importunate
in my humble entreaty that as to so
much as depends upon yourself, Sir, a determined <add>decisive</add> yes or no
may now be given in return. What concerns the Hulks
is at least a very simple proposition, and this has
received the sanction it was recommended to see to
apply for: the other was not submitted to the Committee, having had too much detail in it.

will have the goodness to say to me that you approve
of what concerns the Hulks so far as to propose it
on your return to Town, if I then renew my application
in form, this will be quite enough for me, and
I shall then think it time for me to pay a visit to the hulks at the different places (which I should

which I might eventually have to take: and
by the means a fortnight or three weeks, at a most
pretious part of the season, might be gained. I fancy
explanations were deemed necessary, such as could not
be given without an interview, I should not
in the least grudge a journey to Southampton for the advantage
of being permitted to attend you for an hour,
though but a few days were to be saved by it: still
less (of course) an excursion from Portsmouth, were I
to be at that place on a visit to the Hulks. In like manner
