And as a Vestryman of the Parish of St John. The first of
great the latter, probably, of but little importance.

In an Act passd 1727: 1st Geo 2 – intituled an
Act for making provision for the Rector of the New
Church situate near Milbank in parish of St Margaret
Westminster it is enacted

"To the end therefore that a due maintenance may be
"provided for the Rector and his Successors who shall
"attend the service of God in the said New Church, &c
"That for and towards raising the said maintenance
"the Sum of Two thousand five hundred pounds, shall
be allotted and appointed, for and as the share of interest
"which the sd Rector shall be intituled to out
"of the aforesaid Three hundred and Sixty thousand
"pounds, raised by virtue of an Act of the fifth year of his
"late Majesty, to be applied to the purchasing lands
"tenements, fee from rents on other here hereditaments in
"fee simple, to be conveyed and settled upon the
"said Rector of the Said New Church and his
"successors for ever &c" –

"And be it further enacted by the authority
"aforesaid: That for and towards a further provision
"for the said Rector for the time being, of the
"said New Church, yearly and every year the Sum
"one Hundred and twenty five pounds of lawful
"money of Great Britain, shall be raised and
"levied by an equal pound rate, upon the Inhabitants
"and occupiers of the Houses, Tenements
"grounds and Hereditaments (except the Rector for the time
"being and such persons as shall not pay to the poor)
"within the district or division, appointed for the
said Parish, in the manner hereinafter directed
"&c &c &c –
