"New Church &c that for and towards raising the said maintenance the
"Sum of Two Thousand Five Hundred Pounds shall be allotted and appointed
"for and as the share of Interest which the said Rector shall be
"instituted to out of the aforesaid Three Hundred and Sixty Thousand
"Pounds raised by Virtue onf an Act of the Fifth year of his late
"Majesty to be applied to the purchasing Lands Tenements Free Farm
"Rents or other Heraditaments in fee Simple to be conveyed to and
"settles upon the said Rector of the said New Church and his
"Successors for ever &c "—

"And be it further Enacted by the authority aforesaid: That for
"and towards a further Provision for the said Rector for the time
"being of the said New Church yearly and every year the Sum One
"Hundred and Twenty Five Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain
"shall be raised and levied by an equal Pound rate upon the Inhabitants
"and Occupiers of the Houses Tenements Grounds and
"Heriditaments (except the Rector for the time being and such Persons
"as shall not pay to the Poor) within the District or Division
"appointed for the said Parish in the manner hereinafter directed
"&c &c &c"—

Then follows a Clause enacting that the Interest of the Sum of
Two Thousand Five hundred Pounds and the Sum of One
Hundred and Twenty Five Pounds per annum shall be applied to
the maintenance of the Rector over and above all Surplus Fees
dues &c Easter offerings excepted.—

Sect.13. Power of ye Treasury to accept instead of the perpetuity
a Lease for 1000 Years &c.—

This I should apprehend would be the most eligible mode of
obtaining Possession of the Land in Question. Tothill Fields have
been so long an Appendage to the Brotherhood of St. Peter at
Westminster that I very much Question if the smallest trace of the
original grant remains. They have probably been held at least
