J.B. to Treasury
18 Jany 1811
No, Yes Sir: when after months upon months spent in
distress and consultation, Gentlemen have felt or conceived
themselves under the necessity of charging upon
me the deserting the cause of the prisoners and of him
who hath none to help him they have taken
of prudence they shame and prudence into consent
they have had their : they have given in papers
without a name. No one gentleman being to be found whose
name would enable him to advance a fact with
the most pointed proofs to the contrary put for that very purpose
into his hands a paper without signature, was was
put together and sent out upon that purpose errand. Yes, Sir
from the very board at which this will find you
an anonymous paper, this very first paper of that description
which I am inclined to think and have some
reason to think ever yet issued from that source,
and which I am not less inclined to hope may
be the last.
