J.B. to Treasury

18 Jany 1811

Had passion the dissonant passion been my guide, and the gratification
of them my first object, materials machinery/ it is no secret,
have has never been wanting, and whatsoever accommodation
might be afforded to some person this and that Right Honourable person by
any such refusal would have been afforded to them
eighteen one sixteen or seventeen or eighteen years ago and
more. But my not being able to do above half
the good that the means of which were continued sure, and
for such a length of time so many years continued to be promised
to be, will not in this instance any more than
from the beginning of my life till now it ever has in any other instance be be regarded by me
a sufficient warrant for doing mine as a
sufficient warrant for refusing to do at any time whatsoever
little good it may at that time have been in my
power to do.

Yes, Sir, even now I am ready, if so it be that
it is presented to me in earnest, to take up in hand and
drink down the cup of contempt that is presented
to me. I will, if such be their Lordships inexorable command set about making calculations grounded
on this reduced scale.
