any colour of justice. If the establishment Were the inconveniences pronounced
intolerable, the a neighbourhood and on that account removed from such a
neighbourhood which had been prepared for it by 12
years expectation, and after having been ordered to submitt by
the 12 Judges to submitt to it, the inconveniences, how much more intolerable
must it be to a neighbourhood in upon which
it the establishment fell unexpected, and with a mark of reprobation
on its head? It would thus be hunted round on from
neighbourhood to neighbourhood without finding a foot
of land to repose on any where. And in the mean
time (to say nothing of your Memorialist) what would
become of your Lordships time, and of the public
service? What Of what nature too would be the instruction
thus given given by such a precedent to your Memorialist? – to look out for
another good place, for a place as convenient and
proper as the present one? – No: – but for a bad
place: for as bad an one as could be found, for
its badness would be his only chance. He would
have to hunt the four counties over for a desert:
and if they contained no desert, they would contain
no place for him at all. For let him fix on what
spot he will, if there be such a thing as a house within a mile
or two of it, his chance is gone. To what purpose
look for consent? for consent to an establishment
which your Lordships have pronounced a nuistance?
