Another thing your Lordships may be perfectly
sure of is the certain hardship not to say the injustice to say no more
and oppression and that altogether irremediable which will be accumulating running on other
than whole which your Lordships are waiting looking out
in expectation of an act which it is in nobody's
power to perform. While your Lordships sit waiting,
not the fortune of your Memorialist, as
your Lordships have seen, is consuming,⊞ ⊞ inevitably consuming, and all
at length sooner or later but long before he any land can has been
put into his hands, his means of making use
of it are gone.
As to compensation for the delay, be it less
longer or shorter, an adequate one
is impossible: since of eventual profits prevented,
however real and however considerable they would
have proved, no account could be taken for any
such purpose. The following items, however enormous,
wold fall enormously short of being adequate.
Reimbursement for what your Memorialist
is already in advance, £6000 and upwards
besides interest: for other materials and work bespoke
and prepare in hand, which he will soon be called upon to pay for, not
much less: for what it is costing him to keep his
sum together, £2,000 a year: and this leaves
