Purchase of the Salisbury
Estate at Milbank --
2. That by Leave and Release, executed by the said Marquis,
and dated the 12th of the said Month of October, Your Memorialist,
in such his quality of Feoffee, became purchaser of the said Salisbury
Estate: the sum of £12,000, being the consideration money for the said
purchase (subject however to divers Leases at Will and for Years
outstanding thereon) being paid by the hands of Your Memorialist, by
Warrant from Your Lordships, out of the money appropriated to the
said Service by the said Appropriation Act.

which it appeared, that a portion, containing about 35 Acres, more or
less, might conveniently be appropriated, should the requisite powers be
obtainable from Parliament for that purpose, as and for a part of the
Ground, to be allotted for the use of the said intended Penitentiary House,
after reservation made of divers other parcels of the said Waste, for the
benefit of the several parties interested: — and that accordingly, some time
previous to the offer which gave occasion to the purchase of the said
Salisbury Estate, the Draught of a Bill for the Division and Appropriation
of the said Waste, prepared by direction of Your Lordships,
having been perused and approved by his Majesty's then Attorney
and Sollicitor General, a Notice, declaration of an intention, on the part
of Your Lordship, to cause means to be taken for the bringing
in the same, was, on or about the Month of September 1798, published
