Panopt. Observats on Holford

Of those two works the earliest (Observations on the Hard
Labour Bill 1778) favoured to the author at first the acquaintance
and then the evident continually growing good opinion and friendship of the
good Harward: and at the same time spite of all prejudice
excite produced by a most very printed and publickly
resulted literary attack, the liberally and spontaneously
declared approbation and acknowledgment of Judge
Blackstone.

The other (Blackstone being then no more) the spontaneously
declared "admiration" of the Judge's noble
collaborator in that intended work of beneficence, the the present Lord
Auckland, admiration being the word employed whether
by passion or by politeness at any rate the word actually employed,
any other word if here substituted by to it would have been so far as
misrepresentation.

Who were those two men? Men in whose
first production the person thus approved had found
as it seemed to him some errors in detail, and men
in whose system of upon a second examination suggested
by the invention on which his own new system of
management had taken its rise brought to view what
appeared to him a system of errors the full display of
which it was the object and the business of the a no small
part of his second work to effect.

This Such being the reception given to those works by the persons
whose favourable opinions had been so strenuously attacked by it – not
willingly indeed nor unnecessarily but yet not the less
strenuously attacked by by it, what was the reception given to
it what the use made of it by the Honourable Reporter to whom
it bore not any the most distant reference: who came within the option
of its notice indeed, but
merely because in so
doing he thought to find
his account.
