15 March 1815. Penitentiary Act Further proposed Amendments
proposed in consequence of the proposition delivered
to Sir L. Romilly by r Holford

Further proposed Amendment in continuation of Amendment
4 of the five proposed Amendments submitted
to the Honble James Abercromby and Sir S. Romilly
delivered on the 10th instant.

Amendment for Part the 2d.
And whereas ever since the said of October 1799
the said Jeremy Bentham has been in possession of the said
Land and regarding the power of receiving rent and profit thereof as
a part performance of the said Contract on the part of the
said Lord Commissioners and as a pledge for the compleat
fulfilment thereof hath ever since been in possession and by the the remit of the
said
of such rents and profits as could be obtained from the same said
Land, and for that purpose of enabling himself to derive
therefrom such rents and profits found was himself under the necessity of
leasing the same out letting out the said land to divers Tenants by divers Leases
or Agreements for Leases (the same being however conditional and defeasible at any time on short notice whensoever the
said land should be required to be taken out out of the possession of
of the respective occupants for the purpose of the said Penitentiary
House of which rents the total
though at the time of his entering into possession as above muc inference
is now stated by the said Jeremy Bentham to amount as amounting to £710
per annum as appears upon the face of the said Leases and Agreements
a year respectively clear of all deductions except Land tax
and Property Tax and a small Rent or fee from rent
or of s:d.
