Proposed Amendment to the Penitentiary Bill as delivered this day by
Sir S. Romilly to Mr Roe and by him to Mr Bentham, as having
been delivered to him (Sir S.) by Mr Wolford by whom the Bill had been brought in.

Whereas it is stated on behalf of
the said Jeremiah Bentham that upon
the said Arbitrators making their final
award it will appear that a considerable
sum is due to the said Jeremy Bentham;

Be it therefore enacted that it shall
and may be lawful for the said Jeremy
Bentham forthwith to deliver in to
the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's
Treasury an account of the sums
considered by him to be due to him
together with a statement of all the sums
received by him as aforesaid upon
the receipt of which account & upon
the examination of any account by the
Arbitrators it shall be lawful for
the Lord Commisr. of H.M. Treasury
& they are hereby required (if upon
consideration of such account it shall
appear just & reasonable for them so to
See in Originals do) to allow the sd. Jeremy J.Bentham the
interest of any sum which may appear
from such account to be due to him
at the rate of 5 per ct. per an. to be paid
