To Ld Sidmouth
True it is, that, by wearing out so many years as
have been worn out, of a life of which 64 years four and sixty are already
past, Honourable Gentlemen have given to this argument of theirs
a degree of force, as well as to some other of their arguments and expedients, beyond what I could have been wished,
and seconded by such treatment as I have had the honour it has been my time honoured will
of receiving to receive lot to experience at their hands,⊞ ⊞ and to which, unless
served staged by Your the
of inflexible
Your Lordship
generosity, justice intrepidity of Your
Lordhips justice this last measure will
have given the crowning
strike, the chances of life and death
were certainly in favour of the plan pursued by them so perseveringly for
ridding the hands ridding the powers of high-seated darkness of the encumbrance for already I have
(as may be seen by the Table calculation printed in
Report 28th of the Finance Committee of 1797-8) I have it has
had more been my lot to live several years more than according to Tables given in
any right to live. But, I ought to have lived. Yet still, considering other the considerations above
submitted on the other side, I hope it will not be thought this argument will not, I hope,
be found to have so far accomplished its purpose, as to be con
in your Lordships account a conclusive one.
