During In the time the reign of the present commander in chief
of the corps of Exchequer Jurymen – during the reign
of that potentate, under the weight of whose authority the
law of parliament – I one should not naturally
expect any long continuance at least of the double fee
practice. The corps once enlisted and trained
what more can there be of remain for extra bounty money? If
volunteers to the number of a hundred in one year are procured
single guineas suffice, as by Sir Richard Philips we
are assured they do to procure hundred to the number of a hundred in a year
by single guineas, what need can there be for double ones.
The system of description once perfected double bounty so far from
augmenting security, would but enhance keep up on foot a certain degree of danger.
in a contrary or so, of the of personal or party interests happens
to rise to a certain degree, the state of the
law, that is, of some minute corner of it just so much
as can not but be looked into for the purpose, may chance
to be looked into in one or other House: and then the cor
bribe is so palpable? why it has not escaped observation
even now.
If by rule of Court the Master is ordered to strike a
Jury, in case it be not expressed in such Rate, that
the Master shall strike 48, & each of the parties shall
strike out 12; the Master is to strike 24, & the parties
