(b) In the character of a principle of economy, applicable
in practice to no inconsiderable extent, I would beg
leave also to submitt, whether the unfrugality of those
expenditure might not also be worth the attach a
be found to have some choice to upon the attention of Mr Vansittart.
Some years ago my Brother, in his official capacity,
had found such occasion to use his endeavours to
to this subject the attention of his superiors: – I know
not with what fruit. – If, on a work, which capable
of being compleated in two one year, you distribute the
expenditure in equal portions among ten years, yo
so much the consequence is – that for every year but the last, interest of money
in the shape of interest upon capital advanced is expended in waste, and every half year but the
last in the shape of compound interest. If I do not
misrecollect my Brother found in this way upon
single article a waste of – I am afraid to say of how
much – I believe some millions certainly some hundreds of thousands. – "If the work be such
