14 Sept. 1812
To Ld Sidmouth
I was in hope (I sure) to have added the abovementioned
little testimony, the memory remembrance of which,⊞ ⊞ especially considering my antecedent combat with the departed sage, as may
well be imagined,⊞ is still cherished by me: but, for the
present, I know not by what fatality it has escaped my
search. Should I have the good fortune ever be fortunate enough to recover it, I
will shall take the liberty of transmitting a copy of it by a separate address.
Another little relick, which I had been pleasing myself
with the thoughts of adding, is a communication letter of
similar brevity from Ld Auckland, written in the occasion
of the Panopticon Book, in a some little time after the year
1791. It would serve to show In it would be seen an example of the sort of impression return
made on which from minds such as his Lordship's, by may be made for the finest
and closest examination controversy, when tempered by that respect
to which the object of it were so well entitled were so superior a degree. Though
some of the leading terms in it his Lordship's letter still vibrate in my ears,
I care not for shame let them pass them through any a
some fear of my own, any otherwise than in the best of tenor of a copy,
which, should I ever be fortunate it it be my good fortune
ever to recover the original, shall be added to the above will accompany that of Sir W.
Blackstone's.
