To Ld Sidmouth
For that same number for Panopticon sum total
of expence, building, fitting up, furnishing, , everything
£100,000.
Antecedently to a set of calculations, in which Your
Lordship will not expect me to engage without some
prospect of a reimbursement for the necessary expence not to speak of labour, I
can not pledge myself for that precise sum: it may be
somewhat more: it may be somewhat less.
But this I woul am ready to pledge myself for, viz.
that whatsoever be the sum fixt upon: and it will would not
vary very widely from that mark, the price I would engage
for should be such as to make it my interest not to swell
the amount above, but to reduce it below that mark,
for example that for all above that mark, if I am to be
allowed any profits, I would pay stand charged with
the extra rent, for example, but for example only, say £10 per cent, payable out of such
profits. T
My Lord, this is my best of security: drawn on defence my
there is my try of security: who else
is there that will abide it?
