-Yard Square
Act
down a Poor House in and belonging to the same
Parishes, though the object of that Act was noothing
more than the building of Houses fit for
the reception of Parents having children at the
King's School, and the Poorhouse there in question
was not the present small and decayed structure,
but a modern one the principal Poor House, and
that a modern built one containing the bulk
of the Parish Poor to the amount of money
hundreds.
About 300 private Houses were exposed by
the same Act to the same fate, though owing
to a failure in the ways and means, only
a few of them eventually experienced it
as appears by a Petition presented to the by
the Inhabitants of those Houses to the House
of CommonsLords which Petition is reprinted in the
an annoyance<add>abovementioned</add> written published</add> on the subject, but will
<add>above mentioned pamphlet to have been written by the above mentioned Dr Christopher
Wilson at the time one of thePrebends of Westminster
and Curate of St Margarets.
How much stronger a case that was there
the present, will appear from the following passages
in the Petition being the whole of it except
