Preamble
An Act for explaining and amending
and Act made in the 34th year of the reign
of his present Majesty, and entitled an Act for erecting a Penitentiary
House or Houses for
confining and employing
Convicts.
Preamble
Whereas by an Act made on the 7th
day of July 1794 in the 34th Year of the
reign of his present Majesty [+] [+] and entitled an
Act for erecting a
Penitentiary House
or Houses for confining
and employing
Convicts power an is given
to the Lord High Treasurer or Commissioners
of the Treasury for the time being to fix
upon a convenient and proper spot
cause to be erected a Penitentiary House or
Penitentiary Houses for the purpose of confining
to and employing such transportable and other Convicts as should
come to be removed and for that purpose
to fix either upon a spot composed of certain pieces of ground
therein mentioned or upon any other as
proper and convenient spot of ground situate
within any one or more of the Counties of
Middlesex Kent, Essex and Surry and to
contract with any person or persons for
so building of one or more Penitentiary
Houses on such spot when fixed upon
and purchased and to appoint a feofee
or feofees for the purpose of purchasing
and holding in perpetual succession such
spot as should so be fixed upon with powers
to
