Whereas by an Act made in the 19th Year of the Reign of his present Majesty
intituled An Act to explain & amend the Laws relating. to the Transportat:n Imprisonm.t
& other Punishment of certain Offenders his Majesty is enabled to appoint Supervisors
for Buildg. two Penitentiary Houses for confing & employg. in hard labour such
psons convicted of Transportable Crimes within England or Wales as are therein
ment.d — Provided that in fixing upon any piece or pieces of Ground on which
such Penitenty Houses sho.d be built the situation & other Circumstances of
such piece or pieces of Ground sho.d be reported to & approved by the L.d Chancellor
the Speaker of the House of the Commons, the Justices of the Courts of King's Bench &
Commons Pleas, the Barons of the Coif. of the Court of Exchequer & the Lord
Mayor of London for the time being necessily or by any 8 or more of them before.The
