Tothill Fields Inclosure Bill
at his or their own Costs Charges repair and at all times hereafter keep
in repair all such Public and Private ways as shall lead over and be
contiguous to the said Lots A and B or either of them (private ways only
excepted) as far as the same lead over Private Ground and shall either
uphold an maintain in good repair the existing Drains Ditches and
Bridges over the same appertaining to the said ways in every part or
shall make and keep in repair other good and sufficient Drains
Ditches and Bridges in lieu thereof. —
§. 15. —
Old Poor House
Power to pull down the Five
Chimneys Poor House. —
And whereas towards the Southern extremity of the said Waste
there is and old and decayed Pile of Buildings encompassed by the said
Waste on all sides known by the name of the Five Chimneys now and
for many Years past in the Tenure of the Churchwardens and Overseers
or Governors of the Poor of the said Parishes of St Margarets and St
Johns or one of them and by them employed as a Poor House by their
permitting or appointing divers Poor Persons and Poor Families to dwell
therein to the number of 6 or 9 Families besides the Family of the Person
who acts under the Appointments of the said Dean and Chapter as
Keeper of the said Waste. —
And whereas the said Old Poor House if suffered to continue
would interfere with the Site of the said intended Penitentiary House And
the Continuance and Residence of the said Poor Persons and Families
together with the free ingress and Regress of themselves and Persons having
resort to them, would be incompatible with the Security and good order of
the said intended Penitentiary House. —
Be it further Enacted that as soon as Provision shall have
been made for the Reception, Accomodation, and Removal of the said
Poor Inhabitants in manner hereinafter mentioned It shall and may
be lawful to and for the said Feoffee or Feoffees by Warrant for that
purpose obtained under the Stands and Seats of any two Justices of
the Peace acting for the City and Liberty of Westminster (which Warrant
may be in the words or to the effect marked in the
