The Merit, however, of laying
open the said Square and Streets is
further urged in the next Clause, —
where the Joint Adventurers declare
themselves willing to make the necessary
Purchases, and able so to do,The Petition now laid before Parliament is an absolute Contradiction to y.d assertions, & a gross upon Legislature
as having already raised a Sum of
Money for that Purpose; and in the
first enacting Clause they are expresly
impowered — " to lay open
" the said Square, by building Streets
" or Avenues on the Sides of it."
The Propriety, before contended
for, of obtaining the previous Consent
of the Owners of the Premises,
is moreover implied, if not acknowledged,
in the Clause which specifies,
— " That the Dean and Chapter of
" Westminster were willing and consenting
" to have such intended Square
" carried into Execution." — And
this specific Acknowledgement in their Favour,
