Thus the Consideration of the
Public, which should have been the
Base of the whole Building, was
made use of by the Petitioners as a
Buttress only.
And as to the Manner, in which
the Project was to be so very advantageous
to the PUBLIC, it is no-where
explained. — On the contrary, if, by
the Help of the Petition, we should
find it to consist in opening a better
Communication between the several
Parts of Westminster, even that Advantage
was in a manner explained
away: — For the Dean and Chapter
have Powers to shut or open Deans-Yard,
the New Square, or any of the
