were in this Act some OMISSIONS,
and some AMBIGUITIES.—
A Specimen of its AMBIGUITIES
has already been given, in the Cafe
of DEANS-YARD and the NEW
SQUARE.
And under the Head of OMISSIONS—
it is impossible to forget,
that this Act is thought to have been
founded, in some degree, upon the bare
Assertion of the TWO PETITIONERS,
— viz. That they had raised a Sum
for the Purposes specified in the Bill*.
—No Estimate was either offered, or
called for; — nobody asked, what
the Sum was they had raised, or in
what Hands it was deposited; —
much less did they produce VOUCHERS,
and give the necessary SECU-RITY
* The Projectors would have found it very
difficult to have shewn that such a Sum was
raised: Perhaps it is not raised to this Hour.
