of the brutal armed force (meaning the said Troops of our
said Lord the King) who were sent amongst you by those
who disgrace the names of Magistrates of Manchester (meaning
the said Justices of our said Lord the King) To me it was
a painful moment to think that such a body of fine resolute
Men should have been surprized unarmed by a
cowardly and ferocious armed force (meaning the said
Troops of our said Lord the King) Cowardly murderers
that would have shrunk from fifty of you with your Pikes yet
who would riotously and wantonly plunge their sabres into the
bosoms of the Women because they knew the Men had no weapons
to protect them In contempt of our said Lord the King
and his Laws To the evil example of all others and against
the peace of our said Lord the King his Crown and Dignity
4th Count. And the said Attorney General of our
said Lord the King for our said Lord the King, gives the Court
here further to understand and be informed that the said Philip
Francis being a malicious and ill disposed person and
unlawfully and maliciously devising and intending to raise
and excite discontent and disaffection in the minds of the liege
subjects of our said Lord the King and to move and excite the liege subjects of our said Lord the King to dislike and contempt of the
Commons House of Parliament of this Realm heretofore to
wit on the Thirteenth day of September in the Fifty ninth year of the
Reign aforesaid at the Parish aforesaid in the County of Surrey aforesaid
unlawfully and maliciously did publish and cause to be published
a certain other scandalous malicious and seditious Libel containing
therein amongst other things divers scandalous malicious and
seditious matters and things of and concerning the Common's
House of the Parliament of the Realm according to the tenor and effect
following (that is to say) If the House of Commons (meaning the
said Common's House of Parliament of this Realm) in its
present degraded constitution be the Government of the Country
or part of the Law of the Land then let us boast of the epithet of
Conspirators and boldly declare that our object is to subvert such
a House of Commons and so alter it into a House of the Representatives
of the whole people of Great Britain and Ireland In contempt
of our said Lord the King and his Laws To the evil example of all others
and against the peace of our said Lord the King his Crown and
Dignity.
5th Count. And the said Attorney General of our said Lord the
King for our said Lord the King gives the Court here further to understand
or and be informed that the said Philip Francis being a wicked
impious and ill disposed person and having no regard for the laws
or religion of this Realm but most wickedly blasphemously impiously
and profanely devising and intending to asperse scandalize and
vilify that part of the Holy Bible which is called the old Testament
on the Thirteenth day of September in the Fifty ninth
year of the reign aforesaid at the Parish aforesaid in the County
of Surrey aforesaid did publish and cause to be published a
certain scandalous impious blasphemous and profane libel
containing therein amongst other things divers scandalous
impious blasphemous and profane matters and things of
and concerning that part of the Holy Bible which is called
the
